YPAA National Cultural Policy Submission
YPAA wholeheartedly supports the development of a National Cultural Policy and the Minister’s broad engagement of the Arts, Culture and Community sectors in the discussion.
We acknowledge the inclusion of young people within goal one of the discussion paper and the key acknowledged position of arts education in the development of children and young people in our society. However, in an increasingly ageing nation, it is more crucial than ever for young people to have their voice; and it is through the arts and culture that voice can be so readily expressed, captured in a National Cultural Policy.
There is much to be positive about within the existing discussion paper, however YPAA also wishes to identify areas for further discussion and inclusion.
YPAA's National Cultural Policy Submission has been a collective effort of the YPAA members, industry associates, YPAA board and staff. Feedback has been collected for this submission via face-to-face feedback (including the National Conversation Tour in 2010), YPAA member surveys, meetings, industry consultancy forums and youth consultancy forums.
