QLD Youth Arts Market 2009
QLD Youth Arts Market, Brisbane
19 to 22 October 2009

The Queensland Youth Arts Market (QYAM) was a four day event in Brisbane showcasing the wide array of youth arts in Queensland. Over 24 companies presented and performed their work at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The diverse audience participated in over 20 professional development workshops and two industry specific forums.
Performances and presentations by Queensland artists, children and young people were showcased over the first two days, with evening forum discussions to stimulate dialogue on issues relating to the arts and engaging young audiences and participants.
The second two days consisted of professional development workshops lead by industry professionals in a skillshare format. These workshops provided arts workers with the opportunity to learn a number of specialised skills in a condensed period of time.
Two industry forums discussed existing barriers to succeeding in arts based careers and offer strategies and visions for resolution in How can Brisbane be a viable city for a career in the Arts? and discussed the collaborating and building meaningful partnerships between small to medium organisations and major cultural institutions in Big Questions for the Big End of Town.
The Youth Arts Market model is a national project that YPAA would like to see in every city and every region across the country. YPAA aspires for these Youth Arts Markets to attract a broad range of audience members from producers, festival directors, venue managers and touring agents to large institutions, governments, members of parliament, councillors, and of course families and artists. We welcome anyone to contact YPAA about hosting a Youth Arts Market in your hometown.
QLD Youth Arts Market was based on the 2008 Youth Engagement Showcase (YES), established by the 2008 NSW YPAA Members and Board Member, Helen Hristofski.
