History
Young People and the Arts Australia (YPAA) began its life as Youth Performing Arts Australia in January 1994, evolving from its initial roots as an association of performing arts companies producing work for young audiences.

Since its earliest days, the organisation has been the Australian member of ASSITEJ – the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, linking thousands of companies in more than 70 countries.

Originally based in Melbourne, the organisation relocated to Adelaide in 2001 through a generous sponsorship arrangement with Carclew Youth Arts Centre.

In February 2004, the organisation changed its name to become Young People and the Arts Australia – ASSITEJ Australia Inc. broadening its membership to include individual professional artists and arts organisations working in the young people and the arts sector across all areas of artform practice.

With a track record of more than 10 years supporting the youth performing arts sector, we are dedicated to representing and promoting a national community who care about the quality and quantity of arts experiences available for children and young people in Australia today
