International Symposium On Theatre Making for Young Audiences

A set of 7 papers from the 2005 International Symposium on Theatre Making for Young Audiences. The symposium discussed the question: 'Does theatre help humanise us, as individuals and as a society? And in a world of electronic media and virtual entertainment, what does the experience of live theatre bring?

Issues discussed on the day included:

·The degree to which practitioners should/could involve or consult young people in the development of a production – how to put the child at the centre of thinking.

·The degree to which performances could enable interaction with young audiences and why.

·The degree to which practitioners work as ‘experts’ and whether or not practitioners feel comfortable in this role.

·The degree to which the work can advance the art form and the artists own practice while keeping young people’s interests at the centre of thinking.
