The Role of YPAA
We are a national professional association representing and promoting professional arts organisations and individual artists whose work primarily focuses on engaging children and young people in the arts.
As the national peak body representing the arts for, by and with children and young people, YPAA provides a crucial link between members, the arts sector, the wider community and government.
We do this by providing services and activities to assist, influence, inform and develop opportunities to increase arts opportunities for young people.
YPAA and ASSITEJ INTERNATIONAL
YPAA is the Australian member organisation for ASSITEJ International Network of Theatre for Children and Young People.
ASSITEJ stands for Association International du Theatre pour l’Enfance et la Jeunesse, or the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, which unites professional theatre companies, individuals and organisations working in the field of theatre for children and young people.
It was established in 1965 and since then has maintained and extended its membership network across the world. ASSITEJ is a membership based, non political organisation with a commitment to peace and the rights of children and young people.
The list of ASSITEJ international centres can be found at www.assitej.org
